MASA's main purpose is to support and promote speedskating and its clubs within the Association as governed by US Speedskating, and is run by a board of volunteers who are all participants and supporters of the sport. There are currently six clubs in four states.
MASA has been incorporated since November 11, 1933. In it's early years, it promoted all forms of skating as part of the American Skating Union, yet as its focus became primarily on speedskating, it was absorbed into US Speedskating in the mid 1990's.
